Hi IRA, Just wondering why you continue to ride LMT? Prior to your long ride on LMT you always had a competitive stock. LMT doesn't look good. Again just wondering why long on LMT? Spiderman

Re Spiderman's query to Ira re: LMT. Ira has not posted anything since Aug 21 when he articulated a strategy of staying with a slow grower. He made LMT his default pick - but I got the impression that this was just going to be short term thing. I guess it isn't. I will start listing it as a default pick. We need some new blood to keep things interesting. Recruit your friends - guests join in -

I will work on a new default. Meanwhile, I hope everyone is out of the path of the hurricane. I know SD is in NC. We are in Georgia, but are in the NE, where we are not expected to have anything other than rain.

Good to see you back Tiarra. Hope your vacation was restful. It looks like we will just receive some rain from the western edge - and as i am in the Raleigh area- well inland . Fran tore us up -even inland years ago This storm has been very erratic, but powerful. The Folks in Fla are going to get the brunt of it- A very dangerous storm -

Blygh, I did see his post about riding LMT but I thought it was short term too. Joe has been MIA since DG passed. I'll try to recruit a few of my friends.
SD. Be safe, from what we see on TV the hurricane's heading your way.

Thanks Spiderman, Appreciate the caution. I don't think we'll receive that much here except a lot of rain, and perhaps some lower force winds. , Part of my -will never end- home project includes a small storm/tornado/ shelter room made up of reinforced concrete block walls, reinforced concrete roof, steel door frame. Just enough room to hold 6 adults and the dogs, and some emergency supplies. Cramped, but effective- hope to never need it.
Regarding additional participation-and new members- It would definitely be good to have some fresh faces join in, but I think we, the collective remaining members, having been here so long have a certain connection to this site- In earlier years, there was a lot more participation not only in the horse race, but in other subjects as well- I think that dropped substantially in the prior 1-2 years as DG had health issues, reducing his input as well, Bankedout making a transition in life to engage in other pursuits, etc. In order for a site to have some relevance to encourage new membership, There would need to be some engaging member discussions - or topics- of interest-perhaps in addition to the Horse Race itself , to really engage that new membership to participate. Consider what it is you are looking for when you visit other investing/trading websites. What do you find there that is of value to you, and the time you spend there? Blygh's prior suggestion that we all share the rationale to the thought behind our race selection is a good example of value added through member dialogue. I would agree wholeheartedly- that just this type of information- or viewpoint- expands the 'value' of the horse Race- This was Blygh's summary of his pick for this week noted in last week's horse race- By sharing that view-point, that allows me to either look into it further, choose to agree or disagree- and to take an action or not- but it prompts me to think about that subject- when members share their views, it offers a fresh perspective-
Oct 1, 2016 at 9:34am QuoteEditlikePost Options Post by blygh on Oct 1, 2016 at 9:34am Thanks SD - I am trying to choose the right sector - or at least a positive sector - tech and biotech - traditional bull favorites - are worrisome - but still offer the best possibilities for appreciation. There is also the seasonal element. Last year there was a downturn from September to Feb +/- which we are hard pressed to explain. As far as I can see it may just be a loss of momentum due to slow growth. We may be looking at the same scenario. I watch the financials for validation. If they are flat then the demand for money is low which means slow growth. Consumer staples seem to be the safest bet but will not make you rich. With Christmas coming I feel most comfortable with retail - soon next week AMZN long. (subject to revision anytime before post time - 21:00 Sunday).
Blygh
I have extended several invitations- as well, and would welcome them to join in- I was hoping to get my financial adviser to at least consider posting on the value of long term investments and the value/detriment of short term trading as a supplement to the investment strategy-as well as a friend that follows postings on the site. My friend trades primarily in just 1 or 2 names-and has a different view than I -However, he has had success - despite buying and holding the falling knife during declines, His patience, stock selection and the market continuance to hold up all contribute to his 'success' It's what makes Trading interesting- and realizing that we all have a different approach to how we trade- For my part, I will post charts as time allows, and play catch up on my trading ideas - And , If anyone wants to look at different charts-Weekly, monthly, comparative etc, I would certainly contribute in that regard, since i am still a believer that the Chart tells the story. LMT is a good example of potentially recognizing when the trend has turned, and time to lock in some gains, and consider a repurchase at another -lower level. Today's a rain day here in NC, but that allowed me some time to Find a dry spot and internet service. Tomorrow may be a rain out day as well, so some time on the computer may be available .
A last thought on the Horse Race...., How about offering a Prize? I would Offer to list my vintage trading/investing videos, rewarding that Month's winner the opportunity to select one- A lot of the same or similar content is now free on You Tube-but , it might make it a bit more fun to build one's video library by winning ! Any thoughts or suggestions? Some even go back as far as Pristine when Capra and Velez were together !

Spiderman, Joe is my husband. He has just been super busy, but I will try to remind him to enter this week. I actually added our picture on here a while back. It will probably tell the real story of Joe's disappearance! haha
SD, glad you are safe from the storm. Bankedout is on my facebook, or at least he was until yesterday, he is taking a social media break. I believe he is in Amish Country right now... I miss the old MSN board discussions. DG used to post great jokes and recipes.
I do have a friend that is interested in joining our group. She is fresh out of college and wanting to get her toes wet in the market. She is choosing an interesting time as the market, in my opinion, is oversold. It will surely go down if Trump is elected, which isn't bad news for anyone who knows how to short. I mentioned to SD earlier that Joe will be teaching a trading class in January. I am going to see if the students want to join the board. There are 6 students.
On a side note- ot to brag, but my horse, AA, is running the right way today. Although, rather slowly!
