Today I sold 100 shares of REED at $6.94 I put in a limit sell last night after seeing the stock have a lot of volume but make little progress higher yesterday. My remaining 100 shares have no cost basis. I purchased 294 shares on 6/27/12 for $3.17 per share and have sold enough to cover all purchasing costs and have taken a small profit. The final 100 shares will be pure profit when I eventually sell them.

I have to ask if low volume is not a concern? I noticed that MSON trades intraday with a small 16K volume and wide gaps often occur intraday- this works in your favor when price is rising, but could be a sharp downside should something occur to cause a sell-off. I'm sure you factored this in when choosing the trade, and was curious as to whether you view the low volume trade differently? Thanks, SD

I'm such a small player that low volume doesn't mean much to me. I'm usually buying or selling less than $1,000 worth of stock per transaction.
On thinly traded stocks I look at the Level 2 order book and decide whether to use a market or limit order. I also think carefully about whether I can use a stop order to enter or exit effectively.
For MSON I used a limit buy to purchase my initial shares at $3.00 and I used a market buy to get my add on shares at $3.25 (there were 1,000 offered on the ask at that price at the time).
The combination of low volume and small float can lead to volatile price moves in both directions.
