Had a few minutes this AM- Markets happy on the jobs report I see!- Green across the board- Going to give Blygh a run today I hope! I'll continue with ARKG at the FC today-
Noticing that the Utility sector- VPU had a pretty decent run since January, and this week with the market's rallying , it has had a succession of declining red bars-as I assume this is now the markets way of shifting $$$ into "Risk -On". It will be interesting tp see if the markets can continue to move higher in April, but this has been a positive week! i.imgur.com/pbCvKTD.png

The charts look good but I just wonder of the retail investor is being set up for "Go away May". I have made my money for the year and I am content. I am happy to collect dividends on safe utilities for the rest of the year. I still can't figure out the Oct -Dec sell off last year? Blygh
SD: I also don't know the rationale for the selling- perhaps it was just market psychology- fear of the crowds.... I think everyone was told that we were in uncharted territory-It turned out to be a plus for me as my stops were hit and I was able to repurchase at lower prices-on the pullback lower -10% and did some buying on Dec 24, 26 Ala Warren Buffet Also, We were in a long term uptrend that beat all historical norms and pundits cited that we were "Overvalued" - So we had a sharp sell-off- and also fear of an overly aggressive Fed..and future hikes..and the yield curve--- seems to be off the table for the time being. and the political rhetoric- just think if the Country was on the same page politically and socially .......... For the second time in 2019 , I am (this week) just now above my Sept 2018 high values- so I am LONG and very overweight Tech, with a focus on allocating into those areas with upside momentum- As far as exposure and Risk goes- I sold my VPU position last week on a raised stop. I'm Still at a point where I am seeking growth -and despite making a decent Gain from the December lows, I hope to see 2019 exceed the 2018 levels ... so I feel that the recent basing period that many sectors are now moving higher from offers a perfect set up for setting a reasonable stop-loss- using the low of the prior range.....and seeking to go with the momentum. Stops can always be tightened- As far as May goes- I think it has not lived up to it's "Go Away In May"... It became one of those truisms - that always have exceptions- in 3 recent years- 2016,2017, markets went up and ended higher after a May entry - 2018- markets went higher until September- Ultimately, it seems it's a crap shoot as to what will be the forces in play- at any time - most of it seems to turn out to be Noise.........and stop-losses are the logical way to enter and follow an expected upside momentum play. This week VCYT long
My pick last week was defensive. I thought it would hold up pretty well if the market went down. That might have been true, but I'll never know. It seems like every time I try to take a short or defensive position the market goes the other way. I'm a slow learner. I should stick with my momentum strategy with high flying biotech and tech firms. The one that fills the bill this week is VCYT, up 80% in the past 3 months and up 36% in the past month. Buy high, sell higher. -ira
