As the stimulus package gets doled out across America, I would suggest that we not have great expectations.
Here In NC, they are talking about the road construction and Infrastructure projects as some of the first entities to receive $$$$.
What is so blatantly obvious to me , is that while we will welcome any and all stimulus, many of the direct beneficiaries of this endowment will be illegal aliens, and a large portion of the $$$$ they earn will be sent home to Mexico via the majority of the employees are likely illegal aliens.
In the construction industry here in NC, Well over 60% of the workers are hispanic. Initially, all of them have the "proper" ID in order to be hired- They have a driver's license and a social security card- all of which appear to be genuine.
However, the majority of these are forgeries, and the employer has met his obligation by requiring these forms of ID before hiring.
Our Electrical contractor told me that he had laid off some Americans and they had filed a complaint that he was using illegal aliens , and that he was now being required to verify that the social security # that was given matched the employee- Apparently the gov't won't match the ss number with a name, but will give the date of Birth back to the employer. He has found a large number of his employees ss #'s don't match their date of Birth.
While I personally feel empathy towards the undocumented Aliens in this country, the majority are hard working and just trying to improve their lives, this is indeed an economic and social crisis , and I believe any agency that is receiving contract money from the stimulus package should be required to ensure that the employees are indeed authorized Americans on their payroll. Otherwise, this stimulus money is sent to Mexico or elsewheres outside the country.
Hopefully our Gov't will recogonize this gaping hole in the recovery program, and take measures to correct this. But, the last administration didn't have the kahunas to take this on , will Obama? Waiting on him to address Congress tonight- Good Luck all, a tough road awaits all of us- SD
