Given that our society is facing many imminent crises, the potential for temporary collapse appears real. It would be good to have enough food, water, energy etc to survive on one's own for as much as 6 months to a year. To that end, I have been gradually stockpiling things that have long shelf life. The other day I thought of a perfect food for long term storage that requires little space and small investment. Seeds for sprouts. As little as 2 ounces of alfalfa seeds can sprout into a half gallon of sprouts (tightly packed) in just a week; and sunlight isn't necessary (although nice in the final day for greening the product). I have grown them many times in the past and therefore know from experience that 5-10 lbs of alfalfa seeds would give a person a year's worth of sprouts, if needed on a continuous basis. I buy from an organic certified concern that sells all kinds of seeds/beans for sprouts in quantities ranging from 2 ounce samplers to 35 lb buckets (sealed). I recently saw someone on TV eating sunflower seed sprouts. They thought the taste was excellent and very nutritious.
Are alfalfa your favorite sprouts? Do you just eat them plain like a snack?

I like all kinds of sprouts. You won't believe the variety they have at the website I linked. I will link a special page for you to see. www.wheatgrasskits.com/seed.htmAs to alfalfa sprouts (or 3 in 1 mix), I like it on sandwiches or as a garnish or in salads or as a bed for potato salad.
