Although I am presently focused on things outside of Trading, The passing of Darrel Gross- certainly deserves my acknowledgement as a person I held in high regard. A rarity in the anonymity of the internet.
I knew him for many years only as DG- "Met him" Back in the earlier day when ClearStation was an open internet message board full of aspiring traders. And AOL was the internet provider of choice! And pumpers, scammers and general bullnuts ego strokers were prevalent on those boards. BankedOut was on line as well.
As a novice swing trader, I took to those message boards seeking insight . In the resounding noise of personalities all wanting to declare their trading excellence, only a few voices emerged that I sensed had both a desire for clarity as well as as demanding responsibility from the "posters". Those voices demanding clarity, and accountability came from the persons I knew as DG and Bankedout.
As Clear station eventually went private to Etrade- subscribers, DG chose to offer an alternative board.
It never achieved the popularity of the wider message boards, but perhaps that was never what DG sought to offer- Perhaps instead a smaller board devoid of Hype and supportive of newer traders ideas.
He developed a board that evolved with a small membership of participants; But he always demanded that members adhere to a policy of accountability- He chastised me a time or two for not appropriately acknowledging sources etc. He was also technically advanced - and translated his training to even advise me on my archery pursuits in determining drop in Arrow flight. Gravity and all that scientific stuff that most of us never even coinsider! We can't see it, we don't know it, perhaps it does not exist in our realm.
Although i never met DG in person, it was clear that he lived a life on a higher level that included personal accountability as a foundation for his life.
That is a rarity to find - Internet or in person- A person that lived life on principle.
I think he held a vision for persons bettering themselves via trading/investing- and thus the website dgoriginal.proboards.com/
I think this website can become whatever the REMAINING members choose it to be-
You can allow it to succumb with DG's passing- Or, you can make it YOURS.
The active membership is small and Intimate.
I think it would be a shame if the members simply drift elsewhere's-
That may be the end result-should no one else step up- and take a leadership role in at least managing the Horse Race.
The one constant this website has is that a few select members have returned to it on a regular basis to put their 2 bits into the horse race and compete with the other fellow members.
You don't get paid when you win; you don't get dinged when you lose- but you do have a "group" of traders that you compete with week by week. And it's all non-judgemental.
It's not often that you find a select group of individuals that choose to meet weekly- on this thing called the Internet.
Much less participate in a "Horse Race" week after week- Moths to a candle?
Change occurs- in Life, In Trading. The need to be able to adapt to changing situations is what survival and future prosperity is keyed into.
Although i am not presently active, I would hope that another member would continue the "Horse Race" , and continue the pro boards thread,.
