Hi Blygh, I sent in my selection before Fridays close. GBTC closed on Friday at 2699. I believe that should be my open price. Thanks, Spiderman
Our practice in the past has been that the rider had to specify that he/she wanted his pick at the Friday close. I can see your rationale but I will refer issue to SD for adjudication Blygh

Ira seizes the lead (pending SD's determination of whether Spiderman gets his pick at the Fri close - opinions ?? )- The red ink has started to flow.

I didn't know that was the rule because I've always selected on Sunday morning. I thought if selected before Friday close I would get that price as my open price. It is what it is.

My 2 bits- I would go with Allowing a post before the Close to get the closing price- That is really the primary motivation to get a post in that early IMO- I vote for a preclose pick to get the Friday price- unless specified otherwise....and to allow Spiderman his intended Friday entry.

So basically Spiderman put his pick in days ahead and because he didn't put @fc he gets Monday's open? I'm with SD on this. Have a heart Blygh its Christmas time.

I found the horse race rules. See below. Note #4
HORSE RACE RULES:
entry must be posted in current week's race thread between Friday noon and Sunday 8 pm (ET) -- or as adjusted for holidays
stock must be listed on NYSE, ASE or NASDAQ exchanges
entry may be either one long or one short trade
winner is entrant with greatest percentage trade gain using Monday's open price and Friday's close price -- or as adjusted for holidays
NOTE 1: If price is below $8 at entry, a penalty will be imposed as follows: a long trade entry will be raised to $8 (equal to $8/P times P) and a short trade entry will be lowered by multiplying the factor of the entry price divided by $8 times the entry price (equal to P/$8 times P)
NOTE 2: If so indicated at entry, a racer wishes to stay with the same horse until changed, or to stay with every horse until changed as a rule, entry into the next week's race is automatic, and therefore need not be posted
NOTE 3: In case of a tie, first racer to post entry wins
NOTE 4: Entries placed prior to Friday close will use the Friday close price as reference; whereas all entries placed after Friday close will use the Monday opening price as reference. In cases of automatic reentry, the Monday open will be used (since the automatic selection condition cannot be recognized as such prior to the Sunday 8 pm entry window close).
NOTE 5: No leveraged ETFS or hybrid securities which incorporate options are permitted

Big down day for the field - Ira keeps his head above water - chased by Tiarra
I changed Spiderman's opening price to the Friday close - I just want to be clear that unless otherwise specified - an entry time stamped before the Friday close now gets the Friday close. This does not apply to default picks. Prior to this, entries before the Fri close I assumed took the Monday open

Contest rules per Dec 6 this year A quick review of the contest rules may be appropriate before the new year. 1. Entries should be submitted before 21:00 (9:00 PM) on Sunday (or do we want to make that Monday if the market is closed Monday)
2. Entries must be from the NYSE NASQ or the AMEX - no OTC (Over the counter) stocks (or do we want to open the contest to OTCs and Depository receipts?)
3. No leveraged stocks/ETFs, options
4. Entries may be entered at the Friday close (@fc)on condition they are received before the Friday close - same holds for stops and limits. An @fc close entry is not changeable.
5. Entries after the Friday close can be changed until 21:00 Sunday night
6. Entries that go ex-dividend in a given week will have the dividend added to their closing price going ex-dividend (a fast way to a gain would be to short a stock the week it goes ex-div as the price usually drops by the value of the dividend.
7. Minimum opening price for picks is $8. You may choose a stock below it but the opening price will be adjusted up to $8. I am not sure how to apply the spirit of this rule to shorting sticks below $8. Maybe the difference between 8 and the opening price would be added to the opening price??? Thoughts? Is the the $8 minimum a good idea? Should it be lower?
8. Stops, limits and buy stops are allowed. How long should a buy stop be in effect - the whole week or just the first trading day?
Other ideas?

2 bits: #1- Allow trade entries to wait until Monday pm if market is closed 2,3,4,5,6,7 also works for me. #8- Allow the Buy-stop order to remain-open all week- and it may not potentially get filled- That is one of the Functions I use a Buy-stop for- Simply a Limit order in reverse, or- the reverse of a stop-loss- The stop-loss may not get filled- simply protection if price goes lower to reduce the loss- The buy-stop is protection from going long where the trade actually fails to do so. it is often used to make an entry order when price is trading in a sideways base below, and you want to catch the potential breakout, and not the breakdown.....This is primarily how i use it - in some actual trade set-ups- - ( I also usually attach a limit order with the Buy-stop) . Since i rely on upwards momentum- I want to see a continuation of that momentum- and am willing to sacrifice the difference in price below my breakout level to ensure the trade started out in my direction- It is also a good defensive order- in that trades that fail to break through resistance, will often decline lower-

Unfortunately, someone out there likely bet a lot of their real $$$ and possibly a good amount of their trading accounts on this one product-Call me Jaded... and geez- wish I had gotten some of that gravy while it was there! But, I'm Risk Adverse- Good example of the 1st stop-loss is the best stop-loss.... Is that a faint echo from Don McLean? "The day the music Died !" ? AHH- perhaps not- but it is certainly musical chairs to find the next Buyer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=buX3i3EJIXU

SD are not glad you took profits on RIOT now. I like... yourself still feel its a scam, RIOT that is.
I was thinking of going short GBTC once I saw it posted instead I picked such a dud, what a bloodbath this week... On a positive note I saved a fellow new trader from chasing these juiced up kool-aid stocks. It's a good feeling.
